Umrah Visa and Preparation: What to Watch For

The most asked-about part of an Umrah journey is the visa and preparation process. Good preparation lets you focus only on worship throughout the trip.

Visa and documents

The Umrah visa is usually obtained through an agency. Core documents needed: a passport valid for at least six months, a biometric photo and a vaccination record. Your agency manages the application process.

Vaccination and health

Under the Saudi Ministry of Health’s 1447H/2026 rules, an ACYW meningococcal vaccine is mandatory for every Umrah traveller. A conjugate vaccine must have been given within the previous 5 years and a polysaccharide vaccine within the previous 3 years; both must be administered at least 10 days before arrival. Extra polio or yellow-fever requirements may apply by country of origin. Recheck the current official Umrah health requirements before departure.

Bring a compact first-aid kit, enough prescribed medicine for chronic conditions and any medical documents your doctor recommends. Choose walking shoes you have already broken in.

Place ihram or prayer clothing, comfortable sandals and a small waist bag in the first layer; toiletries and regular medication in the second; a light outer layer and spare clothes in the third. Do not bury what you need on arrival at the bottom of the suitcase.

Health and pace

Discuss personal health needs with your doctor before travelling. Crowds, heat and long walks can be demanding, so plan worship together with sleep, hydration and rest. Verify current vaccination and entry rules only through official authorities.

A simple group plan

Carry the hotel card, group leader’s number and meeting point. Agree on a meeting plan that still works when a phone battery dies; in busy periods, that is one of the most useful preparations you can make.
